TICO TRAINING. Teaching is…Innovation, Communication and Outdoor education

ERASMUS K1 PROJECT

Innovation is a key word today in all sectors, especially in education. Teaching is a continuous progress of building and it crosses generations. In the past schools were a “world apart” from the reality of everyday life. Parents were sure that children were at school protected and safe by the school system and the question “what my child will do in the future” remained unanswered until the end of secondary school. We will see, we’ll see. Today is different. Reality and the school world have to be more linked and innovation has to characterize a teacher’s method and behavior.

TICO Training is an innovative structure of intensive training based on 3 pillars:

Innovation, Communication and Outdoor Education.

Innovation is a broad concept but after many years of experimentation it’s connected with the use of technologies. One full day of the training is dedicated to explore different tools for digital education and tools for innovative teaching through technologies.

Communication is fundamental in teaching and one full day is dedicated to it, exploring different communication styles and techniques.

Outdoor Education is the new trend and it’s fun. We are based in a lovely context which is Soverato, a city on the beach with amazing natural places. Outdoor Education helps to explore and experience, share, consolidate and embed learning. It’s relaxing and reduces stress. This training is the perfect combination between indoor and outdoors. The participants never stay in the same place and have the chance to practice in an environment which is similar to the class, in the training room, with all the support of internet and technologies and outdoors, in nature, out of their comfort zone.

LEARNING GOALS:

  • explore through Non Formal Education and Outdoor Education the main European guidelines on the topic of innovation in education and activate the confrontation among teachers
  • create a team of “European Innovative Teachers” who can cross subjects and create the best synergy fostering teachers cooperation
  • explore new technologies and understand better the impact of the digital transformation in teaching
  • develop communication skills and improving language skills and cultural expression
  • foster teachers’ awareness of their key role in Education in Europe and empower self esteem, self consciousness, enthusiasm and spirit of initiative in creating together new ideas and potential future projects

Program / Objectives

INTRO/METHOD

Like all our programs, the present one is flexible and adaptable to special requests, depending on the subject taught or on the starting level of the participant.

Furthermore, in line with the JUMP Academy method, our courses are based on a strategic balance between formal and non-formal education, indoor and outdoor education and the team takes care of a very important aspect of international mobility which is the intercultural learning which we develop with short excursions and facilitating the interaction with local partners, businesses and citizens of our territory. Each local context has its own economy so it’s always useful, in training programs, to get in contact with concrete examples (experiential learning and real based learning).

We always try to connect our learners to local teachers and students to cooperate in developing innovation and networking for future projects. If possible, inside the program, a morning is spent inside a local school, visiting, observing, and cooperating in the realization of one or more lessons. The proposed program JUMP works, in European dimension and with an international spirit, at the local level and, according to the period of the training along the year and the weather, it is possible to change some sessions and add visits and meetings, in cooperation with our network of partners including schools involved in European projects).

Locations

JUMP is based in Soverato (Catanzaro province), on the Jonian coast but the association cooperates with local partners and institutions of the surroundings towns and cities. Calabria region represents the deep South of Italy, known for the tropical climate and sandy beaches but also famous tall and green mountains.

During our trainings we also aim to make participants discovering the region, especially those old towns rich of culture, traditions, castles, small churches, narrow streets, colourful balconies, tropical flowers and local farms.

The nearest airport to Soverato is Lamezia Terme (SUF), 30 minutes far away from Soverato.

Our pick up is organized ONLY from and to this airport which is the biggest and the most important, connected to all the other cities in Italy and in Europe.

Many people like to stop in Rome or in Naples and take a train which is also comfortable and the journey along the coast is also pleasant (you see all the South).

Villa Gabriella Internation

JUMP proposes to participants to be lodged by Villa Gabriella International B&B managed by our local partner C.T.E. CENTRO TERRITORIALE EUROPEO company (https://closertoeurope.com/). The Villa has 7 big and comfortable rooms continuously renovated but also preserving the typical “old times” atmosphere of a very local house of Southern beach place. The Villa has many spaces for activities, a training room, the breakfast room, the terrace and flowers all around. It’s located in a peaceful and safe district called “Cittadella” surrounded by hills of olive trees and other Villas. JUMP created a network of other similar b&b for when participants are more than 12, in order to assure the same quality with an amazing breakfast, all comforts and an international environment. Villa Gabriella is also the JUMP headquarters for the general management of our activity. The Villa is the meeting point for all guests during all trainings and it’s where we realize all project activities.

LODGING WITH US IN SOVERATO

Thanks to the cooperation with the C.T.E. company Jump provides lodging in 2 villas and if the groups are big, we have cooperation with all the owners of b&b and bigger hotels.

A brand new local partner, an innovative company offering touristic services with another vision and perspective. Discover Calabria and enjoy the local culture making experiential learning and practical labs with local people, but also simply a more sustainable tourism at local level.

The transfer from and to the airport is provided by C.T.E
