Teachers today must prepare their students for a global future. Nowadays challenges are not just local anymore. In the new digital era we are facing serious global issues strongly connected with the need of a more committed citizenship action.
Nowadays Global Education is not a new concept, the starter was the Council of Europe which is an institution often confused with the European Council of the EU, which gave birth to its first initiatives many years ago (GLOBAL EDUCATION GUIDELINES. Concepts and methodologies on global education for educators and policy makers).
At the base of Global Education, since JUMP is an organization which promotes the EU, its values and institutions, we think that there’s always the concept of “citizenship”, related to Europe, and we define it European Citizenship with a global perspective or Global Europe (The EU projected towards the rest of the world). In the last decade, the complex phenomena of globalization and migration brought the sector of education to face them with different strategies and new methodological approaches. Global Education is very powerful as a set of methods and practices which are evolving especially thanks to youth mobility. Global Education was born in fact for youths of all around the world, to meet and be educated about fighting racism, xenophobia, violence and discrimination and to build peace, inclusion and solidarity among global citizens. Global Education gives hope for a better future and for more aware and empowered future generations. It’s a positive way to educate with a worldwide perspective valorizing the local into the global. Infact, the term “glocal” became very famous in the last few years.. The connection with Non Formal Education is very close as support to formal education, to foster inclusion and a more open minded approach to real life (real based education).
Schools are sensitive to Global Education but there is still resistance; National Educational Programs are still stronger than the so-called European and the Global way of teaching. European Programs can accept Global Education as a possible extra tool but not as a structural method to be integrated into the local policies, while in our classes there are children and students which can be from all over the world or their families were migrants so they have “far roots”.
This course aims at giving to teachers the proper knowledge on Global Education with the most important guidelines, training materials and approaches. It will be furthermore a very practical training where teachers will practice Global Education activities useful for students, in specific moments but also incorporated into regular teaching and participants will design and create their own materials, cooperating with others.
The course develops in participants the competences to transfer citizenship competences, fostering active global citizenship, to build critical thinking and develop leadership skills in students. Students taking action and the ones who can change the world of tomorrow in a better one.
LEARNING GOALS
Teachers can be any kind of teacher working in public or private school or educational institutions
INTRO/METHOD
Like all our programs, the present one is flexible and adaptable to special requests, depending on the subject taught or on the starting level of the participant.
Furthermore, in line with the JUMP Academy method, our courses are based on a strategic balance between formal and non-formal education, indoor and outdoor education and the team takes care of a very important aspect of international mobility which is the intercultural learning which we develop with short excursions and facilitating the interaction with local partners, businesses and citizens of our territory. Each local context has its own economy so it’s always useful, in training programs, to get in contact with concrete examples (experiential learning and real based learning).
We always try to connect our learners to local teachers and students to cooperate in developing innovation and networking for future projects. If possible, inside the program, a morning is spent inside a local school, visiting, observing, and cooperating in the realization of one or more lessons. The proposed program JUMP works, in European dimension and with an international spirit, at the local level and, according to the period of the training along the year and the weather, it is possible to change some sessions and add visits and meetings, in cooperation with our network of partners including schools involved in European projects).

JUMP is based in Soverato (Catanzaro province), on the Jonian coast but the association cooperates with local partners and institutions of the surroundings towns and cities. Calabria region represents the deep South of Italy, known for the tropical climate and sandy beaches but also famous tall and green mountains.
During our trainings we also aim to make participants discovering the region, especially those old towns rich of culture, traditions, castles, small churches, narrow streets, colourful balconies, tropical flowers and local farms.
The nearest airport to Soverato is Lamezia Terme (SUF), 30 minutes far away from Soverato.
Our pick up is organized ONLY from and to this airport which is the biggest and the most important, connected to all the other cities in Italy and in Europe.
Many people like to stop in Rome or in Naples and take a train which is also comfortable and the journey along the coast is also pleasant (you see all the South).
JUMP proposes to participants to be lodged by Villa Gabriella International B&B managed by our local partner C.T.E. CENTRO TERRITORIALE EUROPEO company (https://closertoeurope.com/). The Villa has 7 big and comfortable rooms continuously renovated but also preserving the typical “old times” atmosphere of a very local house of Southern beach place. The Villa has many spaces for activities, a training room, the breakfast room, the terrace and flowers all around. It’s located in a peaceful and safe district called “Cittadella” surrounded by hills of olive trees and other Villas. JUMP created a network of other similar b&b for when participants are more than 12, in order to assure the same quality with an amazing breakfast, all comforts and an international environment. Villa Gabriella is also the JUMP headquarters for the general management of our activity. The Villa is the meeting point for all guests during all trainings and it’s where we realize all project activities.
Thanks to the cooperation with the C.T.E. company Jump provides lodging in 2 villas and if the groups are big, we have cooperation with all the owners of b&b and bigger hotels.
A brand new local partner, an innovative company offering touristic services with another vision and perspective. Discover Calabria and enjoy the local culture making experiential learning and practical labs with local people, but also simply a more sustainable tourism at local level.
The transfer from and to the airport is provided by C.T.E
During our trainings and mobility projects, while hosting our international guests from all over the world, JUMP involves the local network of partners and organizes different types of activities. This is not simply tourism, this is local development. This is JUMP Educational Tourism in Calabria region!
