Every week we host different groups from different countries in Europe, but the week from 11 to 20 November was a special week because 16 young Croatian students aged 11-12 accompanied by their teachers, of course, came to Soverato.
Various indoor and outdoor days were organised for them, always following what was the objective of their trainings:
– EUROPEAN GLOBAL EDUCATION as a new pedagogical approach to grow global citizens at school
– More Eco-School in Europe in a Global Perspective
But on Wednesday afternoon, we gave them a taste of what it is like to be in contact with nature, starting the afternoon outdoors.
Nature is immense, but many times one only observes it, and instead we, with a slightly different activity, explained to these young students that nature is not only about looking, but is also about practising other senses, touching nature with one’s hand.
The immensity of the sea and our vast beaches provided the backdrop, where the objective was to search for natural elements to create a MANDALA to which each group gave its own meaning. The collection of objects has been used to create a circle around an object, from among several, that they considered most significant at that moment.
Mandala making is a fantastic therapeutic, spiritual and educational art activity for children and adults of all ages. Not only is creating a nature mandala a great way for children and adults to explore basic geometry, science, artistic expression and awareness, but it can also help them learn more about nature and engage with the great outdoors in one fun outdoor activity!
Making nature mandalas is a great way for children and adults to connect with nature and the universe around us.
Following this activity in which the students relaxed in nature, we created a playtime by discussing what the goals for sustainable development are.
It is necessary for the younger generation to play a key role in building a brighter future. For this purpose, the game ‘Go-Goals’ was created, designed to be fun and engaging, this game informs the children by motivating them to pursue the Sustainable Development Goals themselves.
The game aims to teach the Sustainable Development Goals to children around the world in a simple and playful way. In order to build a better world for everyone and our planet, Member States have agreed to do their best to achieve 17 Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
