Mindfulness: Educating with Awareness, Growing with Balance

Mindfulness represents a journey of awareness that encourages people to live the present moment with greater attention, balance, and openness. In the educational context, these practices can become valuable tools for both teachers and students, promoting well-being, active listening, emotional regulation, and more positive relationships. Through training and direct experience, teachers can acquire new skills to integrate into their personal lives and everyday classroom practice.

From 21 to 28 June 2026, JUMP Association hosted in Soverato, as usual, several teachers from different European countries. Among them was a young geography teacher from the Netherlands, who had just completed his first year of teaching.

He chose to participate in the Mindfulness@School course with the aim of gaining new tools and methodologies to bring into the classroom, helping his students develop greater awareness, fully experience the present moment, improve concentration, and learn how to manage stress. The training course also represented an important opportunity for personal growth, providing useful tools to apply in everyday life.

The course included both indoor and outdoor sessions, allowing the teacher to experience a variety of mindfulness practices, including yoga, body scan, guided meditation, mindful breathing exercises, mindful walking, active listening practices, and sensory awareness activities. Each experience was designed to develop attention, emotional balance, and mental presence, skills that are essential both in daily life and in the school environment.

Each activity was also created to provide practical tools that can be easily transferred into the educational context. Promoting mindfulness in the classroom means contributing to a more peaceful learning environment, encouraging positive relationships, and supporting the development of students’ emotional skills, which are increasingly important in today’s schools.

“A teacher who continues to learn does not enrich only themselves: they bring new ideas, new tools, and new opportunities into the classroom. It is through the growth of those who teach that inspiration is created for those who learn.”
