Understanding Emotions to Grow Together – A Journey into Emotional Competences

From October 19th to 26th, the JUMP ASSOCIATION , based in Soverato, hosted a training week focused on emotional competences, a set of skills increasingly central to European educational practices.
The protagonists of this experience were two Polish teachers and two Finnish teachers, engaged in a mutual exchange and learning journey on the theme of emotional awareness and management in schools.

Throughout the week, the participants took part in workshops, hands-on activities, and intercultural discussions, exploring different pedagogical approaches united by the same goal: promoting an education that values the emotional well-being of both students and teachers.

The activities took place not only indoors but also outdoors, where the participants experienced emotional awareness exercises using emotion cards, mindfulness practices, and guided meditation games. These activities offered a concrete way to reflect on the importance of emotions in everyday life and the educational process, fostering an atmosphere of listening, empathy, and connection with oneself and with others.

Thanks to this context of exchange and collaboration, the teachers were able to compare their teaching methods and discover how emotional education is interpreted and applied in different cultural contexts. Valuable reflections emerged on the role of empathy, communication, and inner calm in everyday educational relationships.

Emotional competences – self-awareness, empathy, resilience, and assertive communication – represent one of the most important challenges for the world of education today.
The meeting hosted by Jump in Soverato is proof of this: teaching how to recognize and manage emotions means building school communities that are more human, inclusive, and self-aware.
