At the end of the Training Module started in October 2025 at the Lyceum of Soverato (Calabria – Italy) led by the JUMP Association within the context of the project “Fake News Busters”, the students continued their assigned work partly autonomously with insights, and partly guided by teachers, expanding their critical thinking and digital tools. The main goal was to reinforce the ability to evaluate the information reliability, recognizing authoritative sources and distinguishing between real and fake news.
After the Christmas break, students returned to school to continue “the Editorial Staff activity” they had begun earlier, sharing their findings from an in-depth exploration of a self-selected article. The JUMP team guided them in developing and expressing their own thoughts and opinions on what they had learned, helping them connect the news to their prior knowledge and actual world. This process fostered a debate among the students, encouraging them to think critically about digital content and apply fact-checking tools. It also helped young learners to be more conscious of the role that every citizen plays and the importance of the right knowledge of the digital world.
In conclusion, the implementation of the Fake News Busters training module in the secondary school represented an important opportunity for the younger generation, helping them to be more responsible digital citizens, more critical thinkers, and more respectful people. Building on these first positive results, the project is currently being implemented in other local secondary schools, extending its impact and reaching a wider audience of young learners.
