Hello,
My name is David Mladenovski, I’m 22 years old and I come from North Macedonia, Kumanovo. With the help of my college, I was given the great opportunity to stay 3 months in Italy on an Erasmus+ internship and work with the wonderful people at the Jump Academy in Soverato. I was not really sure what to expect since Catanzaro is a region in Italy I have heard about the least. What I can say is that after a month of staying here, the people, my coworkers and the city have been nothing but kind and accommodating to me.
I arrived in the middle of march, right when the weather was starting to get better and at first it was hard to get used to Soverato but as time passed I was getting more comfortable in the city, even being able to confidently talk with the neighbors and locals with a simple buongiorno in the morning for example.
I find the Italian language interesting because even though I don’t understand most people when they talk as of now, it’s still fun to listen to how people speak, sing and read poetry and through that, I’m able to understand people in a unique way, all sprinkled in with some classic Italian hand gestures of course.
Working with the great people at Jump gives me the unique opportunity to interact with a new group of students and teachers every week from all over Europe where I get to learn about their own life stories and adventures and help them more behind the scenes by making sure we can offer them the best possible experience while they are with us in Soverato.
Some highlights from my journey so far include the great tours we offer our weekly participants through Jump where we visit different locations like the famous area of ”U Chianu” and its gorgeous scenery. The city also came alive during the Easter holidays, where I saw how locals celebrate, and visited their beautiful church Parrocchia Santa Maria Immacolata.
My journey here has a long way to go, but I am excited for what is to come, and with its beautiful beaches, stunning views and hilltops, each day I understand more and more why Soverato is called the Pearl of the Ionian Sea.
Un saluto da Soverato
David
