Reimagining education through a Global lens: empowering educators to foster Global Citizenship

From September 28th to October 5th, 2025, JUMP welcomed two German teachers from Berlin who participated in the training course titled “European Global Education as a New Pedagogical Approach to Grow Global Citizens at School.” The course aimed to equip them with knowledge and practical tools to integrate Global Education into their teaching practices and to contribute to shaping more conscious and responsible global citizens.

On the first day, we explored the broader context in which Global Education emerges, discussing the challenges, views, and perspectives related to globalisation. Together, we worked to define the concept and foundational pillars of Global Education, highlighting its positive impacts as a pedagogical approach. The teachers also engaged in an activity designed to enhance their socio-cultural awareness and intercultural competencies.

On the second day, we focused on Global Education as a transformative and learner-centered approach. We explored a variety of practical activities addressing key global issues and dimensions, highlighting the interconnectedness between local and global contexts. Moreover, the importance of youth participation in society was emphasized as a fundamental principle for empowering young people to become active and responsible decision-makers.

In the afternoon, the teachers participated in an outdoor session based on the official UN board game “Go Goals!”, together with other participants from Portugal and Spain. This non-formal learning activity gave them the opportunity to actively engage in all the stages of the experiential learning cycle, a central method of Global Education while reflecting on the Sustainable Development Goals in a dynamic and interactive setting.

On the third and final day, the focus shifted to methodologies for implementing Global Education, along with a selection of online tools and resources designed to support educators. Participants also had the chance to develop and present a lesson plan proposal applying the concepts and approaches acquired during the course.

What connected all the sessions throughout the course was a continuous emphasis on core values such as acceptance, respect, cooperation, and justice. This consistent emphasis led to a shared understanding of the urgency and relevance of Global Education in today’s world. Participants concluded the course with a renewed awareness of their key role in guiding the next generation to become active, thoughtful, and responsible global citizens.
