Natural Born Teachers Training with JUMP in October 2024

Over the 3 days, a session on “Natural Born Teachers” took place, offering my participant from Germany a holistic approach to modern education. Held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning, the sessions centred on the integration of mindfulness, meditation, and sensory awareness in teaching, whilst concentrating also on practical tips for educators in order to succeed in the 21st century.

The first session kicked off on Tuesday morning with a focus on mindfulness as a key tool for educators, the session emphasized the importance of being present in the classroom, not just for students but for teachers too. The practice of staying fully engaged in the present moment, was introduced as a strategy to help teachers manage stress, maintain emotional balance, and foster a positive learning environment.

My teacher was introduced to simple mindfulness techniques, such as proper breathing techniques and body scanning, which she could easily integrate into her daily routine and school life. Moreover, my participant was encouraged to begin each day by centring herself, setting positive intentions, and cultivating self-awareness. The purpose of these practices was to help her and her colleagues respond to classroom challenges with clarity and calmness.

Wednesday’s session introduced the use of the five senses as powerful teaching tools. I explained how deepening student’s awareness of the present moment and enhancing empathy, patience, and emotional intelligence are all essential qualities for teachers. The concept of using the five senses—sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch to enrich learning experiences. My participant learnt how sensory experiences can enhance memory and engagement in lessons. For instance, using visual aids, incorporating sounds or music, introducing tactile activities, and even considering the smells and atmosphere of a classroom can make lessons more immersive and impactful.

The final session on Thursday morning centred around Emotional Intelligence. Today, teachers are not only expected to teach subjects but also guide students in developing social and emotional skills. The session covered strategies for teaching empathy, conflict resolution, and self-awareness in a way that aligns with academic goals.

In conclusion, The “Natural Born Teachers” session equipped my participant with a well-rounded perspective on what it means to be a 21st century teacher. From mindfulness and meditation to sensory engagement and practical strategies for a more innovative classroom, it also encouraged my participant to embrace her own growth alongside that of her students. By cultivating self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and adaptability, my session concluded by encouraging my teacher not only to teach but also to inspire her students in a way that is both grounded in tradition and responsive to the demands of today’s rapidly changing world.
