Joyful English course with a group of teachers from Poland and Slovakia – July 2024

Last week I carried out a session on “Joyful English” with a group of teachers from Poland and Slovakia. The session kicked off with an immersive dive into everyday language, including common phrasal verbs and idioms which are generally confused. The session was proof of how creative teaching methods foster a love for the English language.

The participants engaged in activities such as “Storytelling,” where they collaboratively created a comedy play around Shakespeare’s ”Romeo and Juliet”,” where they improvised dialogues from the perspectives of different characters. This not only boosted their confidence in using English in a creative context but also enhanced their linguistic skills.

The session continued with the integration of games and technology in teaching English. Moreover, I demonstrated a variety of digital tools and apps to make learning English fun and interactive. The participants admitted that this style of teaching English was more effective and engaging for students and realized the importance of incorporating these tools into their teaching practices.

The session concluded with a reflection where the teachers shared their experiences and final conclusions. Most of them expressed how the session had been useful in rekindling their passion for both teaching and learning English and, how they appreciated the innovative techniques they had gained. The warm and shared environment fostered a sense of community, with participants exchanging information in order to continue supporting each other.

Finally, the session on “Joyful English” was an occasion where creativity, technology, and collaboration came together to foster a love for the English language. Furthermore it was a demonstration of how learning English can definitely be a joyful and enriching experience for anyone.
