We opened the doors to this new year with the Natural Born Teachers course, an innovative training program featuring two Finnish teachers from the same school, who bring an educational approach deeply rooted in well-being, trust, and a connection with nature. The course took place from January 11 to 18, 2026 and is a unique creation of JUMP, developed from hands-on experience and the genuine needs of teachers.
Natural Born Teachers refers to educators who do not become teachers solely through formal training but who innately possess the ability to educate, care for, guide, and inspire. In a deeper sense, the term reflects teaching that emerges from an authentic connection with oneself, where the teacher is first and foremost a conscious individual in harmony with nature and others. Professional growth is fostered when natural talents, sensitivity, and well-being are valued, transforming the educational relationship into a meaningful experience for both students and teachers.
The program began with an introduction to the course’s purpose and objectives and then continued with outdoor activities, including meditation, yoga, and mindfulness, designed not only as personal practices but also as concrete tools to bring into the classroom or among colleagues, fostering awareness, well-being, and practical strategies for managing everyday stress in the teaching profession.
The course was informed by the needs expressed by European teachers regarding well-being, stress management, and professional approach, aiming to rethink the teacher’s role as a conscious and balanced person, in addition to being a professional. A highlight of the program was the Wednesday fully dedicated to outdoor activities, providing participants the opportunity to practice techniques and experiences introduced during the theoretical sessions, from meditation to yoga, mindfulness, and other nature-based practices, learning effective ways to reduce stress and improve physical and mental well-being.
A distinctive aspect of the course was the intercultural exchange. The Finnish teachers brought a perspective profoundly different from our own, characterized by respect for individual rhythms, a daily and natural connection with the environment, and great trust in student and teacher autonomy. In Finland, nature is a true educational ally, fully integrated into school life and considered essential for learning and well-being.
This approach is part of one of the most internationally recognized education systems, where teacher well-being is acknowledged as a key element of educational quality. The Natural Born Teachers course represented not only a training opportunity but also an inspiration and reflection on our way of teaching, taking care of ourselves, and building healthier, more conscious educational communities capable of effectively managing stress.
