“Mens sana in corpore sano”
that means “healthy mind in an healthy body”, refers to the close relationship that must exist between mental and physical well-being.
The relationship between these aspects is scientifically confirmed, some studies have found that during physical activity the brain releases endorphins, a hormone that acts as an antidepressant, reduces stress and channel aggression.
For the same reason it also improves the quality of sleep.
Another aspect not to be underestimated nowadays are the countless opportunities to socialize that the world of sport offers; it allows fans of the same sport to get to know each other and get in tune, to forge strong ties as they share the same interests.
Furthermore, sport has always been able to prepare, especially for those who practice it as a child, to face the difficulties of everyday life with an extra gear. Values such as resilience and altruism are inherent in young people who have entered this special world: it teaches not to give up after a defeat, especially in the case of individual sports, and to make decisions not for themselves but for the good of the team, in the case of team sports.
Clearly, many could say that they do not have the possibility or the necessary time to dedicate to a sport, but there are not excuses: did you know that a daily activity, even minimal, in enough to break a sedentary lifestyle?
If you work or study in a place close to home, why not reach it on foot or by bicycle? You are only allowed not to do it when the weather doesn’t allow it!
If you live far from your workplace or the place where you study and therefore use public transport to get there, don’t get off at the closest and most convenient stop, rather get off at the previous one and enjoy a walk!
If you live in a condominium, except if your apartment is on the ground floor, reach it by stairs: eliminate the convenience of the lift!
If you have a dog and you have someone who takes it for a walk in your place, abolish this habit! It is time to take 10 minutes to do it yourself, maybe after lunch or after dinner.
Help with housework!
Choose yourself, choose to feel good, choose physical health to ensure mental health!
