Global Education and Nature Based Learning. Training by JUMP in September 2024

On 17-18-19/09/2024 a German and Croatian delegation of teachers met at Jump. The goal? To find out the benefits of Global education and Nature based education together with acquiring the right knowledge and skills to implement them in the school curricula.

It was a fun week in its versatile division between formal and non-formal education, together wind two field trips to Soverato superiore and the Archeological sight of Roccelletta.

This way teachers had the chance to not only sit in a classroom but, to go outside, experience a different culture, it’s history and practice hands on the elements that make Outdoor/Natural-based Education great all in all with an attention to global topics like citizenship, world ecology and Sustainable Developmental Goals.

There where moments of laughter and moments of deep reflection, like when we introduced the story of many Peace Nobel-Prize winners and how little actions, from their side, lead to a huge change, in their countries and globally in the world.

We used non formal education exploring its way to deeply connect to student’s interests and values.

Introduced Project based learning, as a way to engage pupils and transform regular education in something that can actually contribute with the realization of a service or a product.

Games where also a great part of our lessons, like the Go Goals game to learn about the SDGs and a specifically created game called World Peace-Heroes, where you learn about the SDGs using critical thinking, empathy and practical knowledge.

Nature based learning has also been an important component focusing on “how to keep our student’s attention” addressing the challenge of keeping students together and learning during long outdoor experiences.

On the final day teachers were aided in the redaction of a program. Together we identified the title, tools and objectives, identified criticalities, found solution and described a step-by-step process to achieve the final result. In the end, one project for Homeless assistance was elaborated, where students collaborate with pre-existing organizations in order to learn about social awareness, citizenship and develop a deeper empathy for the ones in need. The other project was related with nature-based learning and focused on how to engage a wider community and acquire funds in order to build a learning path in the forests for schools to use and teach about ecology and sciences in a more engaging way!

So, overall it has been a busy week but one very rewarding one.

If you too would like to join our courses to learn more about Global education, Natural based learning, any other topic within our catalog and receive our trainers help to plan out your next school’s project or activity, please take a brave step and Jump with us!
