From Poland to Soverato: A Journey of Growth in Nature

A group of Polish students, accompanied by their teachers, were hosted by JUMP – Gioventù in RiSalto in Soverato, Calabria, from September 19th to October 3rd, 2025, as part of the training course titled “Sharing Cultural European Roots – Nature-Based Education and Inclusive Practices for Teachers and Students Wellbeing.”

The activities took place both in the classroom and outdoors, alternating between theoretical training and hands-on, immersive experiences in nature. Among the many engaging sessions, one of the most meaningful was the outdoor activity held on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 30th, during which students and teachers took part in a sensory and emotional journey.

The afternoon began with the “Circle of Life” – a moment of connection and sharing – followed by an expression of gratitude towards the universe and the surrounding natural environment. Participants were guided to experience nature through their senses and emotions, in a deep, reflective, and regenerating experience.

During the session:

  • Participants formed a circle, symbolizing unity and continuity;
  • They shared thoughts and reflections on the role of nature in their personal and professional lives;
  • They engaged in mindful listening, conscious breathing, and sensory connection with the surrounding environment;
  • They expressed gratitude through symbolic gestures, words, or silent contemplation.

The session concluded with the creation of a mandala made from natural elements on the beach, a deeply symbolic and shared moment. Participants reflected on how such a simple activity could be so moving. It served as a gentle yet powerful reminder of the importance of slowing down, reconnecting, and being fully present — especially in the field of education.
An activity that showed how nature can be a silent teacher, capable of inspiring listening, creativity, and a true sense of connection.
