As part of our specialized studies at Euro College Kumanovo and in collaboration with the Jump Association, I had the incredible opportunity to spend three months in Soverato, Italy, for an Erasmus+ traineeship. This experience allowed us to deepen our knowledge and gain practical insight by working with various local companies. With academic backgrounds in both Business Management and Graphic Design, and currently pursuing my Master’s in Business Administration, this traineeship was the perfect opportunity to apply my skills and broaden my horizons.
From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the amazing Jump team, who supported us every step of the way. Their professionalism, organization, and constant availability made our transition smooth and enjoyable. Each of us was matched with a local company aligned with our skills and interests. I had the privilege of completing my traineeship at SudGrafica, a printing and design company based in Davoli.
Working at SudGrafica gave me a unique, hands-on experience with the entire production cycle—from concept and design to revisions and final output. This was incredibly valuable not only for my development as a designer but also for understanding the behind-the-scenes processes beyond the classroom.
Initially, I shadowed Giuseppe and Daniela, observing how they interacted with clients and handled business operations. This was especially insightful from a business management perspective, as I got to see how they allocated resources, managed time, and created a positive, organized work environment. Later, I joined Marco and Graziella, the in-house designers, to understand how professionals approach creative challenges—from research and ideation to execution. I also spent time in the production lab, learning how various machines function and how different products like billboards, rugs, signage, magazines, and business cards are created. I even got hands-on experience with the embroidery machine under Daniela’s guidance—a true dream come true for someone who loves arts and crafts!
What made this experience truly special were the people. Every team member welcomed me with kindness and made me feel like part of their family. I had the chance to assist with administrative tasks, contribute creative ideas, conduct research, and even participate in basic production activities. Despite the language barrier—most of the team spoke mainly Italian—they always made the effort to communicate and include me, helping me feel both supported and empowered.
Naturally, we faced a few challenges, the most significant being adapting to the Italian lifestyle, language, and culture. But rather than being an obstacle, this turned out to be one of the most enriching aspects of our stay. We discovered many similarities between our cultures—especially the warmth, hospitality, and love for good food. We picked up useful Italian phrases, learned to appreciate the tradition of a long lunch with friends, and embraced the joy of a simple “un caffè” at the bar. We learned how to connect beyond language, to adapt, to support each other, and to grow as individuals.
Living in Italy for three months gave us the chance to truly immerse ourselves in the culture—something a short visit could never offer. This Erasmus experience has been a perfect mix of learning, fun, cultural exchange, and professional development. It’s a journey I will always cherish, and one I wholeheartedly recommend to every young person looking for a meaningful adventure that combines both personal and career growth.
