Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming part of everyday teaching. From lesson planning to educational games and classroom activities, AI gives teachers new opportunities to save time, personalise learning and engage students more actively. The challenge is not whether to use AI, but how to use it responsibly, critically and with the teacher remaining in control.
To address this, teachers from across Europe take part in JUMP’s training sessions in Soverato, within the “AI Gamification and Game-Based Learning for Teachers” Erasmus+ mobility course. In this programme, theory is always combined with hands-on practice, giving participants a full, practical overview of how gamification and game-based learning can be built around AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, while supporting the DigCompEdu framework for teachers’ digital competence.
During these training sessions, trainers work side by side with participating teachers to develop a complete digital lesson based on a real lesson from their own classroom — presented as a good practice that teachers can observe, adapt and implement in their own schools. One practical example developed during the training transformed a biology lesson on leaf identification into a mobile AI-powered field quest using geolocation, QR codes and AI image recognition.
- AI Field Quest: an outdoor, geolocation-based game where students follow real-world clues to find specific plants or locations, unlock a photo challenge on site, and have their plant identified instantly using AI image recognition, with results tracked live for the teacher.
- Cross-AI Lesson Building: participants build a lesson structure with one AI assistant, verify and refine it with a second, and finalise it with a third — encouraging critical thinking and evidence-based validation instead of relying on a single AI response.
- Responsible AI Checklist: a practical, five-rule block on GDPR, copyright and safe AI use, helping teachers protect their students’ personal data and correctly credit AI-generated content in the classroom.
By combining non-formal education, practical workshops and responsible AI use, JUMP continues to help teachers develop the confidence and digital competences needed for modern education. Participants return home with practical methods they can immediately use with their students and share with colleagues, helping to spread innovation in education across Europe.
