How can teachers successfully introduce project based Learning (PBL) into their schools and inspire colleagues to embrace innovative teaching methods? This was the central focus of an intensive three day Erasmus+ training experience that combined professional development, practical tools, and personalized coaching.
The course was designed around a one-to-one learning approach, allowing the participant to work closely with an experienced Erasmus+ educator and trainer. Through individual mentoring sessions, we developed a concrete and realistic action plan for introducing PBL within her school context. Particular attention was given to preparing for an upcoming staff meeting, where she would present the benefits of PBL to inspire teachers and engage them through a practical and inspiring project example.
During the training, the participant explored the latest European educational policies and trends, understanding how project based learning aligns with innovation, creativity, and the development of key competencies for the 21st century. The course highlighted the growing importance of student-centered approaches within the European educational framework and demonstrated how PBL can support meaningful learning experiences.
A key focus was developing a clear understanding of the different approaches to PBL and identifying when and how this methodology can be effectively implemented. Through discussion and reflection, participants examined the conditions needed for successful project-based learning and explored strategies for adapting it to different school environments.
The training also provided a rich collection of practical tools, examples, and best practices gathered from schools and educational initiatives across Europe. The participant learned how to structure projects effectively, anticipate common challenges, and develop solutions that ensure student engagement and learning outcomes.
Another important component involved analyzing existing PBL lesson plans and European resources. By examining successful project examples, the participant gained confidence in designing their own learning experiences and adapting proven models to their local context.
The final module focused on creating a personal learning and teaching pathway to bring PBL into everyday school practice. Together, we developed a step-by-step implementation strategy, including methods for sharing ideas with colleagues, building support within the teaching staff, and establishing a sustainable plan for long-term adoption.
By the end of the three days, the participant left not only with a deeper understanding of PBL but also with a concrete roadmap for change. Equipped with practical resources, a tailored implementation plan, and renewed confidence, she was fully prepared to lead discussions within her school and inspire fellow educators to explore the transformative potential of PBL.
This Erasmus+ learning experience demonstrated that successful educational innovation begins with personalized support, collaborative reflection, and practical action.
